SIRT At Canada 3.0

On May 2-4, student researchers and staff from SIRT joined academics, government officials and industry leaders from Canada’s broad digital media community in Stratford, Ontario, for Canada 3.0, a national conference organized by the Canadian Digital Media Network. The conference focused on the need for collaboration in storytelling and open data sharing in order to foster innovation and position Canada as a global leader in digital media.  Through keynote speeches, presentations and interactive showcases, guests were able to network, identify opportunities and learn about emerging industry trends from a variety of perspectives.

SIRT presented their Virtual Camera Control System project, which allows users to navigate a virtual 3D scene in Autodesk Entertainment’s MotionBuilder software using any wireless handheld gaming controller.  The scene used to demonstrate the 3D rig and camera controller was produced by Autodesk’s Virtual Production consulting team in conjunction with SIRT researchers.

In addition, SIRT’s partnership with Side Effects Software and the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Computer Research was represented through Ph.D. student Lesley Northam’s display within the University of Waterloo exhibition area.  The demonstration included real-time integration of Houdini software and Vicon motion capture data within the Unreal game engine.
