SIRT Adds New Services To Better Serve Ontario's Screen-Based SMEs

Sheridan College and SIRT are pleased to announce that beginning fall 2013, SIRT is expanding its range of innovation services for Ontario's digital media community. Thanks to a recent $1.75 million award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) College-Community Innovation program, SIRT is beginning its transition to a new Technology Access Centre that will better serve the needs of our creative digital community, with a special focus on small to medium-sized enterprises.

Through the new funding, SIRT will add benchmarking, consulting, new facility/equipment access and specialized training seminars to its existing applied research and industry training activities. These specific services are often sought by SMEs that struggle to access certain innovation resources and specialized expertise. These new resources will initially become available later this fall.

The new services will build on SIRT's record of excellence in research and industry-wide training, which has been made possible through the support of NSERC, the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Centres of Excellence, and the Ontario Media Development Corporation, as well as key partnerships with International Cinematographers Guild (I.A.T.S.E. 667), FilmOntario, ACTRA –Toronto, and Directors Guild of Canada- Ontario.

This announcement follows a significant recent award from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, providing SIRT with $800,000 for infrastructure and equipment that will be made available to companies at the innovation stage.
