Leveraging Immersive Technology to Advance Climate Action and Community Well-being
The SIRT Team created a VR experience for the Oakville Community Foundation (OCF) that illustrated the importance of contributing to climate change through small but effective acts. This included things such as reducing the amount of time spent in the shower and changing light bulbs to LED.
A challenge the team faced during this project was coming up with a simple but engaging way to progress through the experience even for people who have little to no experience in VR. This culminated in the team pre-determining points of interest for the user and prompting them with a single button press to continue forward.
The final product is a VR experience that is between 5-10 minutes to complete making it perfect for OCF to showcase at events. OCF has used this demo at a variety of their events to illustrate how even if you can’t contribute in grand ways to climate change, you can still do your part right at home.
